Roleplaying Games
Asher’s Ridge
This week I and one of the other players tried out Asher’s Ridge, which is a GMless 1–4 player game designed to produce an episode of a small-town paranomal mystery TV show, like Twin Peaks (or other shows it references that I’ve not watched). Specifically, it produces episodes of a show, you’re not just roleplaying the characters but also making explicit reference to TV show concepts such as “loglines”, “scenes”, and “acts” to structure the session. It’s got some interesting mechanics too, being completely diceless, instead using a deck of cards and a set of Scrabble tiles.
We found it a little slow to get into, mostly due to lack of familiarity with the source material, but I think once we got over that hump and things started to flow it worked pretty well. I definitely want to come back to it in the future, not necessarily for a campaign but definitely for more one-shots.
Miscellaneous
You may recall I saw a hedgehog back in August and bought it a little house. Something had been eating the food I was leaving out, but I never actually saw it. Until Friday, that is, when I opened the box as usual to check if the food needed topping up and look what I found:
In other news, I’ve been trying to cut down on how much frozen food I eat. I used to always have chips, pizzas, pies, (etc) in the freezer ostensibly for emergencies but in practice I ate that sort of thing quite often.
Last month I started freezing sliced bread (I already bake my own bread) so if I was out of all other food I could easily just make a sandwich, and it has worked wonderfully. I’ve not bought anything frozen since. All I need to do is bake bread a little more often than before.
